Using the molecular tunneling theory we study the ionization of the linear molecule CO2 and non-linear molecule SF6 by a strong, linearly polarized laser pulse. After getting the ground state molecular orbital by using the quantum chemistry code GAMESS, we obtain the MO-ADK coefficients and then the total ionization rate calculated as a function of the relative orientation between the molecule and the laser polarization.Further studies of the effect of the field strength on the orientational dependence of ionization rate are also caried out.
