Sediment records from lakes located in hot and arid climates are oftenparticularly affected by poormicrofossil preservation, uncertainties in sediment sources and by insecure dating control.Nevertheless, they can provide potentially valuable archives of environmental change especially when they are from sites associated with long history of human occupation.
