詹姆斯·罗伯特·布朗(James Robert Brown)是当今欧美著名的科学哲学家,加拿大皇家学会院士,现为多伦多大学一位知名的哲学教授。布朗由于其在思想实验方面开拓性的研究而闻名。他是思想实验研究领域中柏拉图式的理性主义主张的代表人物,他坚持一种柏拉图式的思想实验的说明,主张人们拥有一些关于自然的先验的知识,思想实验就是这些先验知识的来源。布朗有关思想实验的主张虽然存在一些固有的问题,但在目前有关思想实验的研究中最为系统,有着广泛的影响。
James Robert Brown is a well-known European and American scientific philosopher today, a member of the Royal Society of Canada, and now a well-known professor of philosophy at the University of Toronto. Brown is famous for his pioneering work on thought experiments. He is the representative of Platonic rationalist claims in the field of ideological and experimental research. He insists on a description of Platonic ideological experiments, asserting that people have some transcendental knowledge about nature, and that ideological experimentation is the source of these prior knowledge . Although Brown's ideas on ideological experiments have some inherent problems, they are the most systematically and extensively influential in the current research on ideological experiments.
