There are four cellular components involved in host defense mechanisms: 1) macrophages, 2) leukocytes, 3) lymphocytes, and 4) natural killer cells. The interaction of these four kinds of cells not only determines the growth and spread of the tumor, but also determines the outcome of the infectious disease. Activated macrophages have a selective killing effect on tumor cells through an extracellularly-mediated contact lysis mechanism, which has hitherto not been elucidated. The effect of killing activated macrophages in various sources of infection in cells can also be enhanced. From Saccharomyces cerevisiae
