威廉·斯泰伦是20世纪美国著名的小说家,《苏菲的选择》是其成名作之一。小说主要从女主人公苏菲出发,以奥斯维辛集中营及战后的美国生活为背景,讲述了女主人公一生面临三次选择以及寻求创伤恢复最终恢复失败以死得以解脱的悲惨命运。在奥斯维辛,当生存只是一种奢望时,苏菲努力去寻找生存的机会,逃离奥斯维辛之后,当生存成为可能,她又选择了死亡,是什么让刚从凶残的鬼门关逃出来的苏菲又选择了死亡了呢?本文主要从信仰的缺失、罪恶感的折磨、创伤恢复失败这三个方面来探索苏菲之死。
William Stellen was a famous American novelist in the 20th century. “Sophie’s Choice” is one of its fame. The novel is mainly from the heroine Sophie set to Auschwitz concentration camp and the post-war American life as the background, tells the heroine face three choices in his life and seek traumatic recovery ultimately failed to escape the tragic fate of death. In Auschwitz, when Survival is a luxury, Sophie struggles to find a chance to survive. After escaping from Auschwitz, Survival becomes possible, and she chooses to die again So Sophie chose to die again? This article mainly explores the death of Sophie from the following three aspects: lack of faith, torture of guilt, and failure of recovery from trauma.
