Innovation is not easy, breakthrough innovation is even harder. In 2014, BCG surveyed more than 1,500 global innovation company executives, and three-quarters of them still regard innovation as one of their three strategic priorities. Sixty-one percent said their company 2014 Annual spending on innovative projects is higher than in 2013. However, only 13% of respondents said their business carries the ambition of breakthrough innovation. Of the companies that have achieved groundbreaking innovations, 42% believe their company’s innovation capability is at midstream or below. As a rule of thumb, only companies with strong innovation capacity are expected to achieve breakthrough innovation. Among respondents, there is a strong innovation force
