A study of 21 alkaloids isolated from the roots and stems of Stephania japonica japonica Miers in Japan showed that there are some differences in alkaloid composition in plants from different habitats. For example, there are oxo-stephamiersine, 16-oxoprometaphanine, stephamiersine, and step-stephamiersine in the lotus-type alkaloids isolated from the most southern part of Kagoshima, Japan. In the southwestern region of Kumamoto and the four kingdoms, Fujin, Hasubanouine and Homost 6phanoline were isolated. Stebisimine, Epistephanine, and Hypopipistephanine, which are bisbenzylisoquinolines, are components common to all parts of Japan. From the perspective of chemical taxonomy, the above difference suggests that there may be two different strains of Japanese quince. The author recently
