以湘鄂赣边区革命斗争为题材的现代京剧《杜鹃山》里,那位在敌人面前大义凛然的杜妈妈,给人留下了深刻的印象。她的原型,就是著名烈士涂正坤的母亲——何九莲,人们都亲切地称她“涂妈妈”。涂妈妈是一位勤劳善良的母亲,又是一位坚强的革命女性。在那血与火的日子里,她不但热情支持丈夫和儿子投身革命,而且自己也担任交通员,出生入死,为党工作。
