As an alternative to standard aluminum pistons, monolithic (also called monolithic) nodular cast iron pistons with cooling oil passages have been developed for use on high-powered diesel engines. This piston allows a combustion pressure of 3000 psi (207 bar). The piston sucks less heat from the combustion chamber due to a 180 ° F (100 ° C) increase in the average piston top surface temperature. To further reduce the heat loss of the incoming coolant, a non-cooled combined piston can be used. According to the two-dimensional finite element analysis, the structure of the metal roof is expected to reduce the heat loss by 60%, and the ceramic roof does not have a larger effect.
