“铭”字的前身是“名”字。商周时期 ,由于不同形式的祭祀 ,需要不同种类的彝器 ;为了称呼这些彝器 ,就给它们各自命名。“名”字包括了命名的过程。后来“铭”的种种文化内涵 ,是从商周时期运用于与“名”这个字有关的行为和形式发展而来的。铭 ,作为一种行为 ,曾是周代的一种礼制。臣下有功德 ,主上赐铭于钟鼎。最早把铭文作为一种文体全面描述的 ,是南朝梁刘勰的《文心雕龙》。几百年以后的金石学家对铭文的发展的认识 ,超过了刘勰。后来 ,随着“铭”的记功令德作用的缩小和消失 ,自我警戒成了铭文的主流。
“Ming” is the predecessor of the word “name”. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, different kinds of Yi instruments were needed because of different forms of worship; in order to call these Yi instruments, they were given their own names. The word “name” includes the naming process. Later, “Ming” all kinds of cultural connotation, from the Shang and Zhou Dynasties used in the “name” of the word related to the behavior and form developed. Ming, as an act, was a ritual of the Zhou Dynasty. The minister has merit, the Lord gave his name to Zhong Ding. The earliest inscription as a style of a comprehensive description of the Southern Liang Liangtao’s “Wen Xin Diao Long”. Hundreds of years after the stone inscriptions on the development of awareness, more than Liu Xun. Later, with the reduction and disappearance of the role of “Ming”, the self-alert became the mainstream of inscriptions.
