当我们正在编辑这个专辑时,从香港传来一个不幸的消息:我们尊敬的朋友、香港中文大学图书馆馆长颜达威博士不幸于1989年10月20日辞世。颜博士于1986年出任香港中文大学图书馆馆长,并于1987——1988年当选香港图书馆协会主席。在上述两个岗位上,他为促进香港和内地高等学校图书馆之间的联系、合作和开拓两地图书馆学界之间的学术交流,作出了巨大的贡献。第一届、第二届粤港图书馆学情报学学术会议的举行,就是他在香港图书馆协会主席任内和广东省图书馆界同仁共同做出的一项具有开创性的贡献。在此专辑刊出之际,特将颜达威博士在第二届粤港图书馆学情报学学术会议上的开幕辞予以发表,以表达我们对他的敬意和哀思。
When we were editing this album, an unfortunate news came from Hong Kong: Our dear friend, the curator of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr. Daniel Tam unfortunately passed away on October 20, 1989. Dr. Yen was curator of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library in 1986 and was elected Chairman of the Hong Kong Library Association from 1987 to 1988. At these two posts, he has made tremendous contributions to enhancing the liaison and cooperation between libraries of higher education in Hong Kong and the Mainland and in developing academic exchanges among the academic libraries in Hong Kong and Mainland. The first and second sessions of the Academic Conference on Library and Information Science in Hong Kong and Guangdong Province were a groundbreaking contribution made jointly by his colleagues in the Hong Kong Library Association and colleagues in the library sector of Guangdong Province. On the occasion of the publication of this special edition, Dr. Yan Dawei specially delivered an opening speech at the second session of the academic conference on academic journal information in Guangdong-Hong Kong to express our respect and grief for him.
