Objective To analyze the changing trend of HIV / AIDS related knowledge and behavior among FSWs in Gansu province, and to provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of HIV / AIDS among FSWs across the province. Methods From 2005 to 2012, we conducted repeated cross-sectional questionnaires and collected blood samples of female sex workers in entertainment venues in the province for 8 consecutive years with stratified and proportional sampling method. The data were analyzed by SPSS 13.0. Results The age of female sex workers was 20-30 years old. Most of them were unmarried, accounting for more than 95% of the Han people. Household registration was dominated by the province. The awareness rate of total AIDS knowledge rose from 61.33% in 2005 to 88.64% in 2012. The prevalence of condom use among commercial sex workers in the last commercial activity and that of commercial sex condom use in the last month rose from 57.48% and 42.44% respectively in 2005 to 91.64% in 2012, And 75.94%, respectively. The median positive rate of syphilis antibody was 1.00%. Conclusions The sex workers in Gansu province have the characteristics of lower overall age, mostly unmarried people, dominated by the Han nationality, low educational level, and multiple household registrations in the province. The overall awareness rate of AIDS knowledge is high, but there is some misunderstanding about the mastery of AIDS non-transmission ways. The proportion of insisting on using condoms in commercial sex is increasing year by year. Sex workers, HIV / AIDS, syphilis is still in a low prevalence situation, but still need to further strengthen the intervention.
