There are many methods for the determination of trace amounts of cadmium or thallium by polarography. However, for ppb-level cadmium in nickel, the second-derivative method and the catalytic method are not sensitive enough. The anodic stripping method requires the removal of basic elemental nickel. Without separate determination of thallium in nickel directly, our experiments show that the nickel content can not be higher than 0.03M (about 1.7mg / ml), and in the acidic conditions susceptible to cadmium wave interference. If surfactant inhibition of cadmium wave determination of thallium, thallium wave at -0.45 volt (mercury drop electrode), susceptible to lead wave interference.
