Since the discovery of aquaporin-1 (AQP-1) in 1991, its special role as a passive trans-biofilm transporter in free water has been used to explain why certain cell membranes are highly permeable to water. With the deep study of its physiological structure and function, it was found that the expression and distribution of AQP-1 in the digestive system and its relationship with some digestive diseases are more closely related. This article reviews its progress.
