儒家之经权观念起源甚早,先秦儒家主要是在道德意义上讲经权。“经”“权”二字并用出自《春秋公羊传》,其中“权反乎经”的观念影响深远,但后代儒者对此观念削头去尾,由此就形成了“权反乎经”的双重面貌。宋代理学家扬弃了之前的经权观,以朱熹为集大成者,形成了将经、权统一于道之下的经权观。而经权观所涉及的领域也从道德进入了对政治与历史的看法,朱熹和陈亮之间的辩论即是代表。
