Education, science and technology bring together the wisdom of everyone on earth to become today's standard knowledge that allows people to control nature and have a better life today. The Australian National University (ANU), located in the Australian capital of Canberra, was born in 1946 after World War II and is the only “National University” in Australia created by the federal legislature's special legislation. The school ranked 19th in the 2015/16 QS World University Rankings, of which 4 are among the top 10 in the world. In January 2016, the school welcomed Brian Schmidt, the new president. Schmidt won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2011, the Run Run Shaw Astronomy Award winner, and the Australian Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Sciences, and the Royal Society of England.
