Suzhou Sewing Machine Factory is a state-owned medium-sized enterprise that produces “Phoenix” brand sewing equipment. At the end of the 1970s, there were 230,000 sewing machines, which were sold well in the domestic market and were exported to South Asia, the Middle East, Hong Kong and Macao. Since the late 1980s, due to factors such as market changes, product aging, and rigid mechanisms, companies have suffered losses year after year, resulting in insolvent capital and on the verge of bankruptcy, becoming the first loss-making enterprise in Suzhou’s urban state-owned enterprises.
