The fact that the Germans were under-prepared for intelligence work can be seen in a situation analysis presented by the German Air Force’s Fifth Intelligence Division on July 16, 1940. What is strange about this report is that it combines both the British Describing air combat forces as a weak force, it also gives the impression that this weak force possesses operational capabilities. According to the report, there are about 900 fighter jets in the United Kingdom (exaggerated by 30%), of which about 675 are combat-capable (this is more accurate and the Air Force Fighter Command now had 622 combatant fighters). Schmidt believes that the Air Force’s “Hurricane” and “Spitfire” aircraft are both inferior in performance to the Bf-109 and the Bf-110 is better than the “Hurricane,” but not as good as the “ Skilled pilots driving ”Spitfire.“ This is certainly one of Schmidt’s ”masterpieces“ of intelligence that has hidden facts about Göring, who has been proud of the Bf-110. For the same reason the German Air Forces and the Air Force’s Armaments Department have been stressing the poor performance of Hurricane and Spitfire. The department may also need to conclude for Schmidt in its report that ”Hampton" is British Air Force performance
