Characteristics of metamict zircon and its relationship to granites are reviewed.The degreeof metamictization of zircon increases with increasing acidity and alkali contents of thegranites.It is evident that zircon metamictization is caused mainly by radioactive radiation fromradioactive elements contained in it rather than by hydrolysis.
