《收藏家》创刊之前,海波同志向我说:“朱翼庵老先生那才称得起是真正的大收藏家。《收藏家》这样的刊物,应该登载这样的收藏目录,壮一壮门面,您看怎么样?”我是这样想的:古人收藏目录多有刊行问世的,好在我本人已经一无所有,先人藏品都已捐赠故宫博物院、中国社会科学院、避暑山庄、浙江省博物馆。自1949年以后,我本人既未买过一件文物,也未卖过一件文物。所以发表收藏目录也没有什么牵挂,不存在宣传兜售的嫌疑。发表在刊物上,可供读者参考,就像翻阅古人的收藏目录一样。《介祉堂藏书画器物目录》卷二载:“西耳房,紫檀大柜一对,内贮碑帖见《欧斋藏碑帖目录》”;“东厢房,南次间前窗下 .
