经历着新桃换旧符时代变迁的天津,于清末民初出版了《醒俗画报》、《人镜画报》等,见证了天津乃至中国社会性别制度与观念的新旧交替、中西杂糅、传统与现代并陈等奇特景观。画报在图画之上配以白话文,以浅白、通俗的文字,记述社会上发生的重要大事,不仅起到了新闻宣传的效果,对于开启民智,更是不无裨益。通过对清末民初天津画报对女性生活描述的考察,深入研究性别角色在社会文化上的意义和特征。
