Austin got 41 out of a total of 115 votes and Christie, the second-placed Toronto Raptors, got 17 votes. A total of 15 people got at least 1 newspaper vote. After playing Utah Jazz and the Philadelphia 76ers for three years, Austin went to a Turkish team in 1995 and returned to the NBA this season to join the Miami Heat. He averaged 9.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 50.2% from the field this season, compared with 4.6, 0.9 and 6.3% his Philadelphia 76ers two years ago respectively.
