A turbine stage consisting of a bladed disc (hereinafter referred to simply as “impeller”) may vibrate in any of its many natural ways. If you want to be able to avoid turbine vibrations, it is important to understand that one of these approaches may be triggered in the running turbine to cause blade damage. For G.E.C. turbines, this information has been obtained by years of careful study of all vane damage that has occurred. The author of the paper considers that there is still some difficulty in explaining the data obtained from such investigations. Therefore, the operational damage caused by different forms of vibration is described here in detail. Vane damage caused by vibrations, and now almost limited to small and old steam turbine. The paper stresses that any damage to the blades in these turbines should be thoroughly investigated.
