1985 1985年11月,“湖北中国画新作邀请展”在武汉美术馆展出,水墨现代力量在“湖北中国画新作邀请展”中集中爆发。当时湖北美协在著名画家周韶华的倡议与推动下,会集了来自北京、天津、上海、香港和湖北的25位画家参展,堪称“80年代中国画创新的抽样调查”。1986 1986年6月,谷文达在陕西杨陵“中国画传统问题讨论会”期间,同时举办了两个展览——即“公展”和“内部观摩展”。在“公展”上展出的书法和写意画是运用传统的方式创作的,在“内部观摩展”展出的是他实验性的水墨作品。
