Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed a simple and efficient way to produce concentrated isotope membranes. This method uses a desktop terabit lasers to provide a concise way to replace the traditional gas diffusion technology. A 780 nm Ti: sapphire chirped pulse amplification laser ablates a solid target with ultrashort high energy pulses. The expanded plasma places the lighter isotope in its center and the heavier isotope in a spiral distribution
