The Oroville reservoir in the United States is about 200 kilometers north-east of San Francisco, about 120 kilometers south of the state capital of Sacramento, and about four kilometers north of Auroville. The dam, an earth dam, is 235 meters above sea level on the Feather River in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The maximum depth of the reservoir is 200 meters, storage capacity of 4400000000 cubic meters. The reservoir began to store water in 1967, and the M_L (M5.9) earthquake was induced on August 1, 1975, making it the sixth earthquakes earthquake in the world to induce strong earthquakes.
