现代戏创作曾经是广东的一个薄弱环节。建国后至改革开放前,除了独幕话剧《新局长到来之前》以及粤剧《山乡风云》等少数作品外,几乎举不出在全国较有影响的剧目,国家级的《剧本》月刊,登载广东的作品亦寥寥无几。新时期之后,广东成了改革开放的先行点和试验区,使广东领潮流之先,短短的几年,广东的经济建设、社会生活以至人们的价值观念,发生了翻天复地的变化。许多过去连想都不敢想的新思想、新观点、新名词就诞生在这块土地上。光怪陆离而又反差强烈的社会变革,像泉涌一样,给了广东剧作家以充沛的灵感和高昂的激情。于是,一批带着新生活气息的作品应运而生,像《十字街三重奏》、
Modern opera creation was once a weak link in Guangdong. After the new period, Guangdong became the first point and the pilot area for reform and opening up. The first, a few short years after the tide of Guangdong’s economy and Guangdong’s economic construction, social life and people’s values had undergone tremendous changes.
