桐城战役是在1856年11月中旬至1857年2月末进行的。是太平天国发生内讧两个月之后,太平军在皖北发动的一次反击战。天国内讧之前太平军控制了西自武汉,东到镇江的长江沿线,在湖北、江西、安徽三省,太平军都居于优势。天京方面:太平军于1856年4月击垮了围困镇江之敌后继续开展了对天京外围的扫荡战,先后收复了江北广大地区,击溃了围困天京三年之久的清军江南大营,迫使清军统帅向荣败走丹阳,后被革职自毙。江西湖北方面:石达开、罗大纲等率大军西
The Battle of Tongcheng took place from mid-November 1856 to late February 1857. It was a counter-offensive launched by the Taipings in northern Anhui two months after the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom took place. Before the Tiananmen Square, the Taiping army controlled the West from Wuhan and the Yangtze River to the east of Zhenjiang. The Taiping forces resided in the three provinces of Hubei, Jiangxi and Anhui. Tianjing: After the Taiping army defeated the enemies of siege Zhenjiang in April 1856, they continued to carry out the mopping-up operations on the periphery of the capital.
