To investigate the effect of lycopene (LP) on the repair of cardiovascular damage in mice induced by trans fatty acids (TFA), 48 SPF adult mice (male and female mice) were randomly divided into 6 groups TFA treatment of experimental mice formed a model of cardiovascular injury, and then use lycopene gavage for protection. The experimental time was 8 weeks, the next day gavage once, after the last gavage, the animals were fasted for 12 h, the body weight of each group was measured. The malondialdehyde (MDA) content and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were measured by observing the changes of blood pressure, heart rate and histopathology in mice. The experimental results showed that mice exposed to TFA had more weight, more severe myocardial damage and a corresponding increase or decrease of oxidative stress, compared with the control group (P <0.05). Compared with TFA group, all indexes in LP-protected groups recovered, with statistical significance (P <0.05). Can be seen, the appropriate dose of LP can reduce or protect TFA-induced cardiovascular toxicity, the mechanism may be related to antioxidant damage.
