When he visited China not long ago, Stiglitz, vice-president and famous economist of the World Bank, put forward to the Chinese academics three major challenges China faces in the coming decade. He believes that first, as the economy grows and the global economy As the environment changes, the importance of a strategy that relies mainly on exports and foreign direct investment to promote economic growth will decline. At the same time, China faces the challenge of continuing to improve its resource allocation and productivity. Second, China remains vulnerable in dealing with various risks and potential shocks such as financial and social issues. Third, China faces potential social and regional disparities. If this issue can not be properly resolved, it may affect social cohesion. Policies that address these challenges can generally be divided into three categories: making the domestic economy an engine of growth and equality; reducing vulnerability through financial and corporate restructuring and other measures; and increasing efforts to provide development opportunities for impoverished areas in China. This issue contains the main part of the report.
