The highest assimilation efficiency for maize, sorghum and several other plants ranged from 50 to 60 mg CO_2am -2 hr -1, and the CO 2 compensation concentration (r) was close to zero. In contrast, the highest assimilation efficiencies for some of the grains and many other plants ranged from 20 to 30 mg CO 2 dm -2 hr -1, with an r value of about 60 ppm. By placing these plants with high and low r values in the same trap, the CO 2 concentration inside the trap can be reduced, not enough to maintain the survival of plants with high r. In contrast, plants with low r values range from 5 to 8 After days can survive. This is a quick and easy way to screen plants with high assimilation rates from a large number of plants.
