In addition to causing lung cancer, smoking can lead to blindness. British experts found that smokers are twice as likely to develop age-related macular degeneration than non-smokers. The link between smoking and lung cancer is as strong as smoking. A total of 1023 adults were interviewed by the Union for the Age-Related Macular Sickness and the Royal British Academy of Blind and found that only 7% knew that age-related macular degeneration affected vision and showed that many people ignored the effect of smoking on vision; 7 of 10 smokers Stop smoking altogether (41%), or quit smoking if it is found that smoking is harmful to eyesight (28%). The study also pointed out that those who stopped smoking 20 years ago had the same risk of developing age-related macular degeneration as non-smokers.
