Deep-sea drilling programs demonstrate a well-designed systematic drilling program that makes an important contribution to the study of the dynamics and evolution of the oceanic lithosphere. A well-coordinated deep drilling program on the mainland and its periphery will open up an important new area in identifying the structure, composition and dynamics of the continental lithosphere.
