In 2009, it acquired the gas film production line of W.R. Grace and formed a market alliance with Twister B.V., A leading provider of natural gas separation technology in the Netherlands. In order to better serve the expanding natural gas market in Southeast Asia and the world, UOP opened a gas treatment design center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in June 2008. In May 2012, UOP set up its manufacturing and operations center in Penang, Malaysia, specializing in the production of gas purification membrane components.
