Vanadium and uranium deposits in the Lavre and Garfield mines were found in Jurassic Endra sandstones superimposed on Navajo sandstones during the Jurassic and Jurassic (?) Periods. Both constructions consist of pure, light-colored, fine-grained, massive and interlayered sandstone. Vanadium ores, which contain only a small amount of uranium, are disseminated in sandstones as particulate minerals. It constitutes three layers of partially overlapping layers of ore, each of which is flattened and roughly parallel to the main bedding. Each vanadium layer is surrounded by thin strips of fine galena and selenium plume, with a green layer of chrome-bearing minerals nearby. The galena zone and the chromium-containing layer are located above the lower vanadium-bearing layer and the upper vanadium-bearing layer but below the vanadium-bearing layer. Primary ore minerals that contain vanadium are vanadium mica, vanadium-bearing aqua mica and a small amount of vanadium-bearing chlorites and ferrovanadium. Metallic sulfide is dispersed in the ore and is enriched in the galena band. The chrome-containing layer in this area is the same in appearance as the Plymouthville, Colorado, platyville mica of Plesvilleville. Oxidation has no significant effect on vanadium mica; ferrovanadium and vanadium-bearing chlorites and micas are oxidized to form minor secondary vanadium minerals. There are a few potassium-vanadium uranium deposits in the oxidized part of the deposit, but no primary uranium minerals have been found. The deposit is similar to the vanadium-uranium deposits on the plateau but unique in the areas of high vanadium-uranium ratios, poor food availability of carbonaceous materials, and abundant vanadium mica.
