20世纪90年代的中国体育学专家经过艰辛的搜集和整理,发现直到20世纪末,在西方体育传入中国100年之后,中国民间还流传着1000多个传统体育项目。这1000多个传统体育项目中,有700多个来源于55个少数民族。这些民族传统体育活动体现了各民族的历史、宗教信仰和艺术追求,反映出他们各具特色的经济生活和民族习俗。这些体育活动,其项目数量之大,内涵之丰富,流传地域之广阔,参与人数之多,在全世界都是罕见的。
After a long period of hardworking and collecting, the Chinese sports experts in the 1990s found that it was not until the end of the 20th century that more than 1,000 traditional sports programs were circulating among Chinese folk after the introduction of Western sports into China for 100 years. More than 700 of the more than 1,000 traditional sports come from 55 minorities. These traditional national sports activities embody the history, religious beliefs and artistic pursuits of all ethnic groups and reflect their unique economic life and ethnic customs. These sports activities, the large number of its projects, the rich connotation, the vast expanse of geographical spread, as many participants, are rare in the world.
