红棉型盆景,是以广州的市花树——红棉树作为蓝本经艺术加工而成的一种盆景型式。它的造型别具一格:主杆挺拔,侧枝平生轮生,树冠叠托,层次分明,如宝塔剪影。制作这样的盆景,首先要选取一种萌芽力强、芽节较密的树种(如雀梅、朴树等),又要选择单干、挺直、头大尾小并有三至四面侧根的树胚。树胚选定后,要“审材察节”,各枝托如何分布,要心中有数。然后,把过长的主干截短,把不必要的侧枝裁去;粗根也要裁短,并要考虑成型后能植入配盆里。
