1989年9月24—27日,在美国洛杉矶郊外的莱克阿里黑德的加州大学会议中心,日美联合召开了一次题为“破坏、形态、分形”的讨论会。日方出席19人,美方出席14人。代表中除地震学者外,还有一些地质、物理和工程学方面的学者。这是一次别开生面的讨论会。尽管会议使用的是英语,对日本代表来说是个不利因素,但仍然进行了热烈的讨论,气氛高涨。美国方面对浑沌理论和分形理论研究的关心程度令日方感到意外。
On September 24-27, 1989, Japan and the United States held a joint seminar entitled “Destruction, Morphology and Fractal” at the University of California Conference Center in Lake Alleigh, outside Los Angeles, United States. 19 were from Japan and 14 from the United States. In addition to the seismological experts, there are also some geology, physics and engineering scholars. This is an extraordinary seminar. Although the meeting used English, which was a negative factor for the Japanese delegate, there was still lively discussion and the atmosphere was high. The United States is concerned about the theory of chaos theory and fractal theory so that Japan is surprised.
