提高既有线行车速度是扩大运输效能一个简单而有效的措施,大势所趋,我国也开始进行。国外对既有线正积极进行改造以提高行车速度。如德国铁路根据具体情况,分别提高速度为100~160 km/h和160~200 km/h,对时速为200 km的既有线,则提高到230 km。应用新型摆式列车,不须大量加大曲线半径。从此看来,提高既有线行车速度主要问题在路基方面。铁路工程人员不论是改善旧线或新线,似应对路基工程在提高速度可能性方面看得远一些。
