There are also studies have shown that severe TMJ injury and dismeshing of the articular disc within 3 months will cause fibrous tonicity in the TMJ articular cartilage with some calcifications but no complete bony rigidity. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the role of the articular disk in preventing TMJ ankylosis. Twelve pure-fed merino adult sheep were equally divided into two groups. Group I: The TMJ temporal bone and condylar articular surface were removed surgically and the articular disk was retained. Group Ⅱ: Remove the right TMJ articular surface and remove the articular disk. 1 in each group
