Prof. Cao Fengqi was the earliest scholar to study joint-stock system and securities market in China. As early as the beginning of the 1981 reform, he began to study the stock-holding system theory that was deemed as the “forbidden zone” at that time. In the summer of 1984, he wrote “On the System of Shares under Socialist Conditions”, which was one of the earliest articles on the study of the stock system in China. The Theory and Practice of China’s Shareholding System, published in April 1989, systematically summarizes the theoretical research and practical experience of the joint-stock system in the 1980s and is an important work of the theory of corporate shareholding reform in China.
