清中叶是戏曲发展的黄金时期,在前期的乾隆时代,以昆曲全本戏的衰微与花部诸腔的繁盛为主要表现,在乾隆后期以及嘉庆、道光年间,以折子戏为主流的舞台演出盛极一时,出现了不少演技精湛的演员,并诞生了许多唱腔流派。同时演出市场上戏园子林立、戏班频繁更迭,说明此时剧坛已经形成了决定剧种存亡的市场机制,戏剧演出也就成了一种高度“商业化”的市场行为。
