素有“鱼米之乡”美称的江苏省建湖县,面积1114平方公里,耕地70万亩,沟河2300余条。近10多年来,随着改革开放的深入发展,水利建设取得了令人瞩目的成就。全县水利总投入5000多万元,修筑防洪圩堤1700多公里,挖土5000多万立方米,建防洪闸1300余座,排涝站1000余座。水利建设的发展,为抗御自然灾害、确保工农业生产和国民经济的发展,发挥了积极的作用,使素有“锅底洼”之称的建湖县成了苏北里下河地区的一片绿洲,粮棉丰收,成为江苏省“十大粮仓”之一,人民安居乐业。
