Suppressing unwanted echoes generated by ground and rain, referred to as “clutter,” to maintain the ability to detect aircraft targets is of paramount importance to air traffic control radars. This article describes the most popular clutter suppression methods. That is, Doppler filtering is used to identify clutter from the moving targets. Investigated several valuable clutter filtering techniques and the block diagram of the processor. Some of the tendencies involved in the intuitive use of people (replacing the basic theory that has been validated and established by field experiments) are also discussed. The whole progress of ATC radar, including the future direction of development, is also looked forward.
