The first phase of development of the Athel formation in southern Oman depends on large-scale hydraulic fracturing stimulation measures to achieve industrial economic output. Crack size, shape and orientation are key parameters in predicting well production dynamics, optimizing well layout and optimizing fracturing design. Because of the multi-layered structure, early assessment is crucial for long-term development and management in terms of flow boundaries and reservoir dynamics. To obtain this data, a permanent downhole integrated data acquisition system is being installed in the production well in the first development stage. The system uses a unique combination of tubing-delivered meters and three-component geophones to deliver downhole pressure, temperature and microseismic data in real time for enhanced stimulation and recovery.
