近年来,国外推出一种应用激光技术控制的新型农田基本建设机具——激光平地机。使用这种机具平整地块,精度可达到±3厘米,每个工作班次(8小时)可平整土地75~150亩(5~10公顷)。与推土机相比,平地效率提高3~5倍,每小时节油1200克。美国生产的卡迈克345-C型激光平地机,由机身和铲运斗两大部分组成。机身包括动力机构、控制箱和驾驶台。控制箱用来控制铲运斗的升降。铲运斗用来挖运土方,其横梁上装有激光接收系统,用来接收激光发射机发射出来的红光。机身与铲运斗之间连接有3根油管,控制斗的升降和接收系统由液压油缸控制。驾驶台上装有控制杆、接收盒、指示灯等设备。接收系统外层是一个有机玻璃制成的圆柱罩,内装可上、下滑动的游标卡尺,自动接收由激光发射机发射出来的红光束,并通过液压机构传导后反映在接收盒
