In order to improve the ambient air quality, Shanxi applied to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a loan to initiate Shanxi Environment Improvement Project. After 5 years’ labor－consuming preparation, the Project raised the curtain on Mar. 15 this year. The scope of the Project includes four subprojects: a) Taiyuan Coal Gasification Plant; b) Datong District Heating Plant; c) Yangquan Coal－bed Methane Collection Plant; and d) Project Building Capacity. The program costs 1.54,030 billion yuan, among which 102 million US dollars (about 850 million yuan) are funded by ADB’s loan.
