現行中学课本生物学第三册“生物的进化”一章,是論述关于生物界发展規律的知識。学生必須对生物体的构造、生理、习性各方面有一定的知識,利用这些知識来理解生物的进化。例如:根据植物界菌藻植物、苔藓植物、蕨类植物、种子植物四大门和根据脊椎动物的魚纲、两栖綱、爬虫綱、鸟纲、哺乳纲五纲动物的构造和生活环境的比較,来說明生物从簡单結构到复杂結构、从低等到高等、从有水的环境向陆地环境进化的規律。所以說,学生已学过的植物学、动物学方面的知識是讲述生物进化的具体材料;而生物进化的內容又是学生已学过的植物学、动物学知識的概括和提高。因此,教师必須尽量联系学生已学过的生物学知識来讲述这一章的教材。
