紫金矿业集团股份有限公司起步于1992年,由闽西山区的上杭县矿产公司转化而来,当时的总资产只有351.70万元。依靠对低品位的、被普遍认为没有开采价值的紫金山的有效开发,在没有政府资金再投入的情况下,取得了重大的发展,到2003年,实现产金超10吨和利润超4亿,仅去年上半年利润已达3.7亿多元,在全国黄金行业处于遥遥领先的地位。紫金的飞速发展被业界称为“紫金现象”。
