1999年《生物经济学杂志》的创刊标志着生物经济学的发展进入了一个新的阶段,生物经济学用经济学工具分析生物现象,同时也为人的行为倾向寻找生物学尤其是进化视角的解释方式,并因此而检验或调整了自己的基本假设。生物经济学增强了经济学对人类行为的解释力,并对社会福利政策的制定产生了一定影响,累积因果是生物经济学的主要分析方法,其潜在的基因法则仍有待于进一步的研究和证明。
